What is Chiropractic? •A system of therapy in which disease is considered the result of abnormal function of the nervous system. The method of treatment usually involves manipulation of the spinal column and other body structures. -The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition •A system of therapy that utilizes the recuperative powers of the body and the relationship between the musculoskeletal structures and the functions of the body, particularly of the spinal column and the nervous system, in the restoration and maintenance of health. -The American Heritage® Stedman's Medical Dictionary The human body is made up of over 200 bones, which are joined together to form our skeleton. Many of these bones make up our spinal cord and are the "super-structure" for our nervous system. When these bones get moved out of alignment from a sudden blow or even from poor posture, you may experience a "subluxation" or misalignment of your spinal vertebrae. When this happens, it can cause a variety of symptoms and heath issues. A chiropractic adjustment is a highly specialized procedure that your chiropractor may use to realign the vertebrae and remove the stress that the subluxation is putting on your nervous system. A chiropractic adjustment helps restore your spinal cord to its proper position, and by keeping your spinal cord and vertebrae in proper alignment you will be aiding your body's ability to heal itself and nourish your healthy body and life.
